Uno de los más recientes hitos en los sistemas educativos mundiales es la creación de centros de innovación educativa, cuyo objetivo es propiciar entre los docentes la transformación de su práctica. La emergencia de estos sitios es consecuencia de profundas tensiones que padece la educación en general, por lo cual se plantea una reflexión en la cual se revisen algunos hechos que son evidencia de tal crisis en Latinoamérica y particularmente en Colombia, el lugar que tiene la innovación educativa como solución a estas problemáticas y los retos que tendrían docentes, escuelas y centros de innovación para aportar a tal solución.
