A documentary analysis and a content analysis of Public Policies were carried out, which revealed that Socio-Occupational Guidance is vital in the life projects of rural youth, as well as the role of the School Counselor in the process. This reflection article focuses on the functions that the School Counselor should develop in the Socio-Occupational Guidance projects in rural educational contexts, from the leadership of the process, the accompaniment to the different educational actors, the counseling to parents and students, and the articulation of the actions proposals by the educational community. These first conclusions open the field of research on School Guidance in Rural Education; however, future research should aim at knowing the perception of School Guidance Counselors in rural contexts and their role in educational management. |

La orientación vocacional ha evolucionado hacia el concepto de orientación socioocupacional, siendo poco explorada su relación con la educación rural. Para comprender esa relación, se realizó un análisis documental y otro, de contenido de políticas públicas, los cuales revelaron que tanto la orientación socioocupacional como el papel del orientador escolar en el proceso son vitales en los proyectos de vida de los jóvenes rurales. Este artículo de reflexión se centra en hacer una aproximación a las funciones que el orientador escolar, desde el liderazgo del proceso, debería desarrollar en los proyectos de orientación socioocupacional rurales; en el acompañamiento a los diferentes actores educativos; en la asesoría a los padres y estudiantes; y en la articulación de las acciones propuestas por la comunidad educativa. Estas primeras conclusiones abren el campo de investigación de la orientación escolar en la educación rural; sin embargo, futuras indagaciones deben apuntar a conocer la percepción de los orientadores de contextos rurales y su rol en la gestión educativa.
