description The immediate background of a teacher's innovation center should refer to the creation of teachers' houses that have been initiatives of the same guild in a large part of the Latin American countries. First of all, wewanted to review some of these experiences in order to trace aspects that allow us to find the common thing that configures a house of the teacher and that would give clues to think about the functioning of an innovation center. The second part of this article aims to make a theoretical reflection from the contributions provided by the empirical balance of documented experiences and literature that puts at the center of the discussion on education the teaching issue, the social image of the teacher, and the crisis of his authority. All with a view to enrich the discussion that may be taking place in academic settings, teacher training and thegroups of teachers in the city.

Los antecedentes inmediatos de un centro de innovación del maestro deben remitir a la creación de casas de maestros que han sido iniciativas del mismo gremio en buena parte de los países latinoamericanos. Se ha querido en primer lugar hacer una revisión de algunas de esas experiencias para rastrear aspectos que nos permiten encontrar lo común que configura una casa del maestro y que daría pistas para pensar el funcionamiento de un centro de innovación. La segunda parte de este artículo pretende hacer una reflexión teórica a partir de los aportes que brinda el balance empírico de las experiencias documentadas y de literatura que pone en el centro de la discusión aspectos como la cuestión docente, la imagen social del maestro y la crisis de su autoridad. Todo con miras a enriquecer la discusión que pueda estarse dando en escenarios académicos, de formación docente y en los colectivos de maestros y maestras de la ciudad.
