Resumo:This paper presents the results of a research on the external representations of a group of primary school students, about separating mixtures to obtain natural aromatic oils. This process involved the design, validation, and implementation of a sequence of teaching activities that considered pedagogic and didactic reflections, concerning the value of the semiotic representations in the teaching of the Science. The qualitative approach permitted the interpretation of the student’s meanings in regards to separating mixtures.
